IndaChlor®– what’s it all about?

With IndaChlor, Indaver intends to set up a new recycling plant at Loon Plage (Dunkirk) to recycle production residues originating mainly from the PVC industry, and to produce raw material for Ecophos and steam for another business near our future site. 

IndaChlor will treat and break down production waste and chlorinated residue streams. We will then recover the precious materials, i.e. chlorine, from this process. With a treatment capacity of 40,000 tonnes per annum, the plant will transform the residues into hydrochloric acid, a product used in industrial processes. In addition, IndaChlor will make use of the energy produced. 

IndaChlor will provide its neighbour, Ecophos, a producer of phosphates for animal feed, with the hydrochloric acid it needs for its industrial process. The energy produced during the treatment process will make it possible to supply steam to another neighbour, which specialises in alcohol production. The supply of steam will be achieved via a network of pipelines linking the three production sites. 

IndaChlor, which represents an investment of 40 million Euro, will be installed in the port industrial zone. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2019. The plant should create approximately 20 direct and 30 indirect jobs. 

Like IndaChlor, the ARP project is part of the Indaver Molecule Management (IMM) programme. The aim of this programme is to recover materials of quality from the residue streams of industrial processes. With the ARP project, Indaver has once again built a recycling facility right beside the manufacturing plant of an industrial partner, a steel company, in fact on its very site. This means that the hydrochloric acid recovered and the waste produced can be reused immediately in the steel-making process, rendering logistics costs negligible.
